Increasing visibility, attracting new customers, complying with LOM law requirements… There are many reasons to want to equip your car park with charging stations. But how do you go about it? What are the key steps? How long should you allow between project development and commissioning of the stations? We explain everything!

Project design

The profitability of a charging station installation project requires precise knowledge of your potential and current customers’ needs, in order to offer them an appropriate charging service.

To understand and anticipate these expectations, a study of the site’s so-called “traffic” risk is essential: public received, projection of electric vehicle attendance, types of flows, geographical location, adjacent traffic routes… This initial analysis should help you define the profile of your future charging station, i.e. the number of charging points and the type of stations to be installed.

It will then be necessary to consider the locationof the stations. The final choice, resulting from trade-offs between visibility and technical constraints, must also comply with the obligations imposed by the LOM law.

The design phase also includes a technical and financial assessment. These calculations aim to determine the technical feasibility of your project, to estimate the cost of equipment and, more generally, to guarantee the profitability of the station.

A period of 2 to 4 months is required to conclude this first step.

Connection to the electrical network

Your future charging station must now be connected to the network. The connection request is made to Enedis, the network manager, or any other local electricity distribution company. Enedis then establishes a work quote within 3 months.

Depending on the location, allow 6 to 12 months to connect the station.

Studies and formalities prior to construction

Before starting the work, Driveco teams simultaneously take care of:

  • conduct asbestos or hydrocarbon detection studies ;
  • complete all formalities with the town hall, including submitting a prior work declaration or a building permit application, depending on the project’s footprint.
Given that the town hall has a processing period of one month from receipt of the application, allow 1 to 2 months to complete all these steps.

Installation of charging stations

Once authorisations are obtained, the installation work on the stations can begin. The duration of the construction varies according to the size and location of the charging station.

From the initial site survey to the acceptance of works, allow an average of 3 to 4 months of work.

Commissioning

Once the stations are installed, Driveco work engineers intervene to commission them and ensure their proper functioning.

Connection to the supervision system, ground markings, station branding… Everything is checked to make the charging station immediately operational. After commissioning, our team takes care of training your staff in the use of the stations and the supervision system.

Generally, one week is sufficient to complete this step.

Communication and referencing

The success of your project also depends on the communication actions implemented to promote your electric charging offer.

If your goal is to retain new customers, it is essential to make your service known to as many people as possible. Various means of communication are available to you: event-based inauguration in the presence of the press, social networks, advertising on your brand’s communication media… The installation of a charging station is the ideal opportunity to get people talking about you at the local level.

To increase your online visibility, don’t forget to list your establishment on general applications (Waze, Google Maps, Pages Jaunes…) and on harging station search applications (Chargemap, Electromaps, Hubject…).

Finally, remember to train your team on how the charging station works to offer optimal service to your customers!
